Malcom x seems to define literacy in a more historical perspective. He seems to dive deep in his own culture and race. He treasures literacy more than most. School seems to focus more on the grammatical side of literacy while Malcom X is more historical and for narratives.

I really like your perspective on Malcolm’s literacy! I agree that the roots of his interest and power from reading was reading about the history of the mistreatment of his race. Without learning about his history, he wouldn’t have become the activist that he formed into! Why do you think are some reasons that school focuses more on the grammatical side of literacy?
